Chief Doan started his career with the Boise Fire Department in 1991 as an entry level Firefighter and was an original member of the Hazardous Materials Team. Dennis continued his service in the Operations Division as he advanced to the rank of Senior Firefighter in 1995 and then promoted to Captain in 2002. He was awarded Boise City Firefighter of the Year in 2003 for his work as a lobbyist for Idaho firefighters and received the American Red Cross 2004 Real Hero Award. He was President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Idaho (PFFI) from 1999 to 2004 and lobbyist from 1997.
Dennis founded the Idaho Fallen Firefighters Foundation and was instrumental in establishing the Idaho Fallen Firefighters Memorial. He was appointed Boise’s fourteenth Fire Chief in the history of the Department on February 12, 2008 by Mayor Bieter and City Council. Chief Doan is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and is the current president of the Southwest Idaho Fire and EMS Chiefs Association. He has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Boise State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Business Administration degree from Northwest Nazarene University. While attending NNU, Dennis was invited and received into membership by both Delta Mu Delta and Phi Delta Lambda International Honor Societies and currently serves on the NNU Alumni Board.
