This week on Heritage Bible Radio, we continue in the book of Revelation with chapter 2:8-11. These four verses comprise a second letter that Jesus addressed to one of seven churches, all of which were in existence at that time. This one was for the church at Smyrna. To this church, Jesus didn’t offer criticism like He did to the church at Ephesus; He offered encouragement. They were about to encounter severe persecution, and Jesus encouraged them to keep doing what they were already doing: standing firm in their faith despite adversity. You might think that if Jesus was pleased with this church, He would remove the suffering or obliterate the opposition and protect His church. But, as you’ll find out, His purposes are deeper than just keeping his children from suffering and he often uses the suffering itself to put on display the faithfulness of his people, ultimately for his own glory. Can you take encouragement from that? Yes, you can. To find out how listen to today’s slice of Pastor Jim’s message on Revelation 2:8-11–Just Be Faithful.
