Did you know that Loneliness is twice as bad for you as being obese? In the longest study of its kind every conducted (75 years) by Harvard University, they have found a few absolutes: “Good relationships keep us happier and healthier.” “social connections are really good for us.
It turns out that people who are more socially connected to family, to friends, to community, are happier, they’re physically healthier, and they live longer than people less connected.” Given this information and a host of other recent studies, we have learned that there is an epidemic of loneliness in our society.
Surprisingly, in the face of the rise of social media, we are finding that people are lonelier than ever! As you might guess, God has a solution.
This week we will look for a final time into the book of Romans. There we will discover God’s mechanism for counteracting the devastating forces of feeling alone. There we will discover that the answer is embedded in the gospel mission and the church we are all called to serve.
